his work takes the words from the famous sermon by Martin Luther King. Jr. the prominent American minister and civil rights activist. He argues that the combination of a tough mind and a tender heart is essential to end segregation and racism.
The qualities of Loyalty, Respect, Compassion, Honesty, Honour, Integrity and Courage were of huge importance to Dr King. These qualities are also part of the strict moral code of the Japanese Samurai. This is known as bushido, ‘the warrior way’ – the interpretation of which varies between different warrior clans.
The seven virtues of bushido are those illustrated in Japanese in this piece. The wolves symbolise mountain worship, in which it is believed that mountains give birth to the bounty that governs the whole cycle of life and death.
