hese words, by Marcus Aurelius, ask us to be steady, still and like a rock. He believed that everyone was like a rock and that whatever we encountered we were still the same. He was an ordinary man who became an emperor, yet he could have been dethroned at any moment, but this would not change who he was. The things which happen around us are outside us - success, failure, highs and lows, we are still the same.

Marcus Aurelius was born April 26, 121 CE, died March 17, 180, he was a Roman emperor (161–180), best known for his Meditations on Stoic philosophy. He has symbolized for many generations in the West, the Golden Age of the Roman Empire.

The background represents the ever-changing dark skies, deep water and crashing sea. A lighthouse on the rocks is seen as our guide to unseen danger but, in this piece, the lighthouse represents us being sturdy like the rock. The anchor symbolises us being grounded within ourselves and our values, not to the changes around us.
