hese words are from the poem The Same Sun which Tess has written. The poem paints a picture of the Sun as it appears to us from dawn to dusk and throughout the Seasons. The Gilded Sun sends messages to the Earth. These lines describe the Sun of Springtime which begins to warm the Earth, giving little messages for new growth, more light and new beginnings. The design of this piece also suggests the light coming from and through the darkness.
I walk through the Wye Valley all year and one of the first signs of spring for me is to see the new ferns unfurling their spiral leaves. I wanted to show the darkness of the forest and the newness and brightness of the new plant life.
This piece was an entry for the Springtime in Bloom exhibition organized by the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society (CLAS) and won three awards.
